Abstract
This paper gives a survey on the use of silica-scaled chrysophytes as ecological indicators of present and fossil environments with special regard to acidification and eutrophication. Their value as environmental indicators is discussed, and the importance of correct identification of the species and thorough knowledge of their ecology is emphasized. Keywords
