Abstract
The activity of the muscles of the leg is detd. quantitatively by a kinematic analysis of motion pictures in conjunction with records of the reaction of the ground and its point of application, made by a special apparatus. By an application of D''Alembert''s principle, the torques exerted by the muscles on the foot, shank, thigh and trunk are followed through a double step. The rate at which the muscles do work or are worked upon is detd. and its relation to changes in kinetic and potential energy discussed. The reception and release of energy by the leg muscles take place in 2 cycles for each double step, the 1st starting when the leg is in the middle of its swing, the 2d while the foot is on the ground. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
