Formation of dark solitons in quantum wells
Abstract
We derive a local nonlinear Schroedinger equation which describes an electron gas in a quantum well. Depending on the well width and the number of electrons in the well, we find, analytically and numerically, that the system gives rise to a nontrivial ground state with a hole in the electron density (``dark soliton"). This collective state remains stable in the presence of an electric field of moderate intensity.Keywords
