Abstract
The author traces the development of population mapping from Crome's Grossen- Karte Von Europe of 1785 to the present day. The special characteristics of population maps are described and the various cartographic methods used in displaying population characteristics are explained. The paper concludes with a short note on the use of the computer in the preparation of population map manuscripts.Keywords
