Abstract
Experimental results are reported on the formation of deformation twins in rhenium single crystals, deformed in tension at room temperature. The twinning shear is large (∼0·6), in agreement with some earlier results for similar twins in zirconium. Low shear twins of the type, which are generally a feature of the deformation characteristics of hexagonal metals, were not observed. A possible reason for the choice of twinning system is proposed. Keywords
