Abstract
THE introduction into this clinic by Astwood1 of thiouracil and other potent antithyroid drugs for the medical treatment of Graves's disease resulted in a challenge to the concept that this condition is best treated surgically. Thus, there is a growing divergence of opinion concerning the relative merits of medical and surgical therapy in hyperthyroidism.As a contribution to the discussion of this problem, a study has been made of the results of surgery for a period during which the performance of adequate subtotal thyroidectomy, combined with the proper use of iodine and other preoperative and postoperative measures, was the accepted . . .Keywords
