Clinical electromyography in ear, nose and throat practice

Abstract
A new method of surface integrated electromyography [EMG] is described for use in [human] ENT [ear, nose and throat] practice. It is particularly suitable for the relatively delicate muscles of the mouth and throat. A special bipolar surface electrode was designed to sample the interarytenoid, posterior crico-arytenoid and crico-pharyngeal sphincter. Very important EMG abnormalities were found in a variety of neurolaryngological disorders. It is expected that surface EMG will very soon become the method of choice in otolaryngology.
