Abstract
Six oral and verbal apraxic patients with no speech on admission to the project achieved varying degrees of verbalization with American Indian Sign as a synchronous facilitator. Gains were measured by comparing patients' verbal scores on the Porch Index of Communicative Ability (PICA) on entering and leaving the project. Family and hospital observers noted improvement in the patient’s daily spontaneous speech. Keywords
