Abstract
To the Editor: The anaphylactic manifestations that often follow the spontaneous or traumatic rupture of a cyst in hydatid disease presumably have a multifactorial pathogenesis in which complement may have a relevant role.1 , 2 To verify this hypothesis we studied the effects of cyst fluid from Echinococcus granulosus on the human complement system.Samples of normal human serum were incubated at 37°C with cyst fluid in the proportions 0.01:1, 0.05:1, and 0.1:1. In control samples, cyst fluid was replaced with veronal-buffered saline. After 15, 30, 45, and 60 minutes of incubation, samples of the different mixtures were assayed for total hemolytic . . .Keywords
