Abstract
Evidence is presented that the red, insoluble bis(toluene-3,4-dithiolato)tin used in the colorimetric determination of tin is a co-ordination polymer. A series of dithiolatotin compounds have been prepared and their acceptor properties investigated. Of the spirocyclic compounds examined bis(ethane-1,2-dithiolato)tin and bis(propane-1,2-dithiolato)tin are monomeric, and form complexes in which tin is 6-co-ordinate. The insolubility of bis(propane-1,3-dithiolato)tin suggests that it is polymeric; it forms adducts in which tin exhibits co-ordination numbers 5 and 6.Keywords
