Abstract
A new inorganic ion exchanger showing an unusual selectivity has been prepared by mixing 0·04M-titanic chloride with 0·02M-sodium tungstate in the volume ratio 1 : 1 at pH 2–3; the compound has Ti:W ratio 2 : 1. If however, 0·02M-titanium sulphate is mixed with 0·04M-sodium tungstate in the volume ratio 1 : 1 at pH 2–3 the gel formed has the Ti:W ratio of 1 : 1. Ion-exchange properties of both the samples have been studied and the utility has been demonstrated for the separation of Ca from Sr and for the separation of Ca from Mg. Neither sample dried at 40° shows any crystalline phase when examined by X-ray analysis. Keywords
