Abstract
A belt of pelitic schists and gneisses extends for over thirty miles from the mountainous area north of Loch Fannich to Beinn Dronaig in the south. Within the pelitic belt are several supposed inliers of Lewisian-like rocks. The whole is surrounded by typical Moine Schists. The structure of the Fannich Forest area has been interpreted previously as a fan-structure in the core of which the Lewisian basement is exposed. As a result of recent field investigation the whole belt is re-interpreted as a gigantic tectonic inclusion enclosed within the Moine granulites. Keywords
