Analysis of the backscattering method for single-mode optical fibers

Abstract
The theory of the backscattering method, which so far has been known only for multimode fibers, is extended to single-mode fibers. Under certain conditions the result of the present investigation is nearly the same as for multimode fibers although the theory in the latter case is based on a ray optical approach.Keywords
