Abstract
Raman and infrared reflection spectra of the fundamental lattice modes of NaOH are observed in a broad temperature range in the low‐temperature orthorhombic and in the monoclinic phase (T ≧ 514 K). The temperature dependent wave numbers and line shapes especially of the (OH) libration and of the (OH) valence mode are determined. The results are discussed using data from X‐ray and neutron scattering experiments and are compared with the conclusions of recent theories on molecular dynamics in crystals. Keywords
