Abstract
Squashes of yeast cells in distilled water yielded intact mitochondria which were identified by staining with Janus green. Electron micrographs of squashed yeast cells grown in an iodine-containing medium showed that iodine increased the visibility of the internal structure of mitochondria. The interior of a mitochondrion comprises rows of villi emanating from a central core. The outer and cristal membranes enclose the internal structure. Keywords
