RENAL PAPILLARY NECROSIS IN THE NEWBORN

Abstract
The changing urographic appearance of the kidney parenchyma in a survivor of renal papillary necrosis of newborn is presented. The roentgen appearance of the late sequelae of the disease may cause diagnostic problems to the radiologist. In a patient with known history of perinatal hypoxia and/or acute renal shut-down, renal papillary necrosis should be included in the differential diagnosis of chronic renal parenchymal changes. It seems to us that documentation of roentgenologically recognizable sequelae should lead to more accurate diagnosis of renal parenchymal damage in childhood.
