Abstract
The microwave spectrum of vinyl formate has been observed in the region 10–25 Gc/sec. Both ``a'' and ``b''‐type transitions have been assigned for the ground and one of the excited vibrational states. The rotational constants obtained are consistent with a planar structure with the carboxyl oxygen cis with respect to vinyl group and the terminal vinyl carbon trans with respect to the acid group. The components of the dipole moment | μa | and | μb | were determined for the ground and excited vibrational state. The dipole moment μ is 1.48 D and | μa | and | μb | indicate it is probably oriented along the line between the oxygens. Keywords
