Search for $T$ -Violating Transverse Muon Polarization in $K^{+} \to π^{0} μ^{+} ν$ Decay Using Stopped Kaons

Abstract

An improved search for a

T

-violating transverse muon polarization

(P_{T})

in

K^{+} \to π^{0} μ^{+} ν

decay was performed using kaon decays at rest. By means of this method,

P_{T}

was extracted with small systematic errors,

P_{T} = - 0.0042 \pm 0.0049 (stat) \pm 0.0009 (syst)

, and the

T

-violation parameter was determined to be

Im ξ = - 0.013 \pm 0.016 (stat) \pm 0.003 (syst)
