Abstract
E. rozeti inhabits the rocky, arid areas of north Africa and is active throughout the year. The body temperature (Tr) is labile. In the field, Tr varies between 32.degree. C while resting in the shade and 37.degree. C while resting in the sun. In captivity E. rozeti at ambient temperatures higher than 20.degree. C, Tr in the active animal varies between 31-37.degree. C. Torpor shows a circadian pattern and occurs spontaneously. The critical Tr (triggering arousal in torpid animals) is .apprx. 20.degree. C and the arousal rate, 1.degree. C .times. min-1 between 20-34.degree. C. These physiological features are compared to those of other insectivores and discussed in relation to the ecology of E. rozeti. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
