Abstract
Compression of higher order optical solitons in fibers with anomalous dispersion decreasing along their length is investigated. We demonstrate high-quality compression of pulses with initial soliton order 1<N<2 achieving compression factors over 50, using a fiber length equal to approximately one soliton period. This pulse compression technique has significant advantages over the widely reported adiabatic and soliton-effect compression techniques. Keywords
