Abstract
DIAPHRAGMATIC hernias have been diagnosed with increasing frequency in the past twenty years because more frequent x-ray studies are made of the upper gastrointestinal tract. These hernias may be responsible for a variety of symptoms referable to the gastrointestinal or cardiorespiratory system. In general, they tend to occur in older age groups, and are somewhat more frequent in women.1 The role of pregnancy in the development of diaphragmatic hernia has not been determined.
