Field induced ordering in the frustrated square-lattice antiferromagnet
Abstract
We investigate, analytically and numerically, the behavior of the frustrated square-lattice antiferromagnet with quantum and classical spins in an external magnetic field. In the vicinity of the strongly frustrated point, J' ~ 0.5J, an applied magnetic field induces a transition from a gapless spin-liquid state with finite magnetization into a commensurate gapped state. The latter state has an up-up-up-down spin order and is characterized by the appearance of a magnetization plateau at a half of the saturated magnetization. Keywords
