Abstract
A further study of the separate effects of termination of the CS and avoidance of the US in avoidance learning. Electric shock was used through the floor of a shuttlebox. Ss were grouped as follows (2x2 design): (1) Ss could terminate the CS and avoid the US; (2) Ss could only terminate the CS; (3) Ss could only avoid the US; and (4) Ss could neither terminate the CS nor avoid the US. The first group surpassed all others and rapidly acquired a stable CR. Both termination of the CS and avoidance of the US facilitated frequency and latency of CR''s and there was a significant interaction. Keywords
