Abstract
Two cases representing instances of systemic venous obstruction following the Mustard procedure are reported. We feel that suspected strictures or kinking of the intraatrial pericardial baffle should be evaluated by cineangiograms obtained by injecting contrast material into both the inferior and superior vena cava. It is also advisable to study these patients in the supine and sitting positions, since flow characteristics may change under such circumstances, as demonstrated in one of our patients (Case II). We presume that cineangiography would also be useful in those cases of periatrial clot, in which circumstance the chamber size of the atrium is decreased and the pulmonary venous drainage is compromised with resulting pulmonary edema. Early detection of complications of the Mustard procedure is important since an operation to correct these hemodynamically critical lesions is mandatory in most cases. Keywords
