Megacolon and Volvulus in Parkinson's Disease

Abstract
The megacolon may present all the clinical signs and symptoms of acute or subacute intestinal obstruction, necessitating Ba -enema examination to exclude an organic lesion. In these cases, the colon will be found to be markedly dilated and redundant, but patent A certain number of these patients with megacolon will present with an identical history and physical findings, but complicating sigmoid volvulus will be demonstrated. Therefore, this association of megacolon and volvulus should be considered when a patient with known Parkinson''s disease presents clinical findings of intestinal obstruction.
