Abstract
Of 157 patients with subacute bacterial endocarditis due to known organisms, 6 were infected with the resistant enterococcus. Of 4 failures, 1 went unrecognized for 6 mos. before treatment was instituted. The 3 remaining cases were inadequately treated during the early course of this disease. This possibly favored the encapsulation of the livers containing the enterococcus. Adequate and early treatments with at least 10 million U. of penicillin daily was utilized in the 2 cases who recovered. Keywords
