Abstract
Interrelationships of red imported fire ant, Solenopsis invicta Buren, mounds were determined by direct observation of workers within subterranean foraging tunnels. Foraging tunnels radiating from active and inactive mounds were excavated to observe connections between mounds. Connections existed between active mounds, between active and inactive mounds, and between inactive mounds. Aggressive behavior was observed. Approximately 80% of all mounds observed (active or inactive) were connected to at least one other mound by subterranean foraging trails. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
