Rate of Loss of Intravitreally Injected Fluorescein and EDTA in the Rabbit Eye

Abstract
Varying doses of fluorescein sodium and ethylenediaminetetra-acetic acid (EDTA) disodium were injected intravitreally into the rabbit eye. Their intravitreal concentration was followed from 5 min to 12 h after the injection. Larger doses of the injected substances disappeared faster. No difference was observed between the behavior of fluorescein sodium and EDTA disodium. The removal of these anions from the vitreous cannot be explained by diffusion and dilution alone even though an exponential curve fitted the results reasonably well.
