Abstract
Intravenous injection of diphenylhydantoin (DPH) (20 mg/ kg) 90 minutes prior to or 60 minutes after administration of streptozotocin to normal male rats was found to prevent the development of diabetes. However the rise in blood glucose concentrations 2 hours following administration of streptozotocin was not prevented by DPH; in fact when DPH was given 30 minutes before streptozotocin, the initial hyperglycemic response to streptozotocin was potentiated. 1 This investigation was supported by a Research Grant from the Dreyfus Medical Foundation, New York, N.Y. 10004.Keywords
