On the Anomalous Properties of theh1-Cyclopentadienyltin(IV) Halides

Abstract
H 1-Cyclopentadienyltin(IV) halides exhibit low Mössbauer Quadrupole Splittings reflecting the similarity of the C5H5 and halide ligands at tin, and leading to the expectation of strong Lewis acid character; however, Lewis bases form the expected adducts only if bidentate, or in the case of (h 1-C5H5)2SnCl2 and pyridine, only in petroleum ether, while in benzene for X[sbnd]Cl and in all solvents used for X[dbnd]Br and I, SnX4.2py and (h 1-C5H5)3SnX form from (h 1-C5H6)2SnX2 through redistribution; and h 5-C5H5SnCl likewise forms tin(II) chloride adducts only.
