The interaction of water with Pd(110)

Abstract
The properties of water layers adsorbed onto Pd(110) at 100 K have been studied with high-resolution electron energy-loss spectroscopy (HREELS) and temperature programmed desorption (TPD). A chemisorbed layer is observed which desorbs at 193 K. HREELS measurements suggest that this layer grows in two stages. At low coverage, the spectra are consistent with monomers or dimers. At slightly higher coverage, the spectra are consistent with the ‘‘bilayer’’ structure which has previously been proposed for Ni(110) and Cu(110).
