Abstract
An unexpected result was obtained this respiratory enzyme was found to have several pH optima depending upon whether the measurements were made aero-bically or anaerobically. The kind of oxidation-reduction system in which the enzyme functions was a factor in pH optimum. Following optima were obtained: in methylene blue, 8.75; in toluylene blue, 7.5; in 1-naphthol-Na-sulpho-nate-2,6-dichlorphenol-indophenol, 8. These showed that the optimum for the dehydrase could not be determined in dye solutions. What was measured, was the optimum for the reaction between activated substrate and dye. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
