Cholesterin als prostethische Gruppe im Serum-Globulin. VIII. Mitteilung.

Abstract
The petroleum ether-soluble fraction of the decomposition products of serum-globulin produced by boiling with acetic acid, acetyl chloride and HBr yields a volatile hydrocarbon of the composition C16H28 and a small quantity of a homologue Ci8H32. Globin and serum-albumin do not yield these hydrocarbons. If the cholesterol compounds of the blood are treated in a corresponding manner with acetic acid and acetyl chlorid, a volatile acetyl compound of an alcohol C16H27OH can be derived giving the color reactions of cholesterol, which the hydrocarbons from the serum-globulin do not give. Hence the conclusion that serum-globulin must contain a cholesterol complex.
