Abstract
Thirty-two mated pairs of bobwhite qual (Colinus virginianus) were tested to determine whether their reported monogamous mating habits were based on specific attachments between individuals. Aggression occurred in every case when mates were switched, whether the switch was immediate or took palce after 3 wk of isolated separation from the original mate. Control animals, separated and then replaced with their original mates, showed no aggression and were all observed to copulate successfully. Keywords
