Abstract
In light of the growing use of formal organizational arrangements for long-range planning, this study examines the structure, functions, and personnel requirements of a number of these organizations located among companies in a single industry. The research suggests that certain characteristics are associated with a specific industrial environment while other characteristics seem to persist regardless of environment.Keywords
