Abstract
The unexpectedly favorable response of addicts to a maintenance program has forced a re-examination of the psychogenic theory of addiction. Historically, this theory was based upon study of established addicts, and not upon data obtained in the pre- or postaddicted state. The so-called addictive personality therefore could be interpreted dither as a cause or a consequence of addiction. This publication has 3 references indexed in Scilit:
