Abstract
Today the sight of nurses making ward rounds to check patients’ comfort needs, especially in pressure area care, has long gone. In the past, a ‘back trolley’ was prepared containing a bowl of warm water, soap, washing cloths, towels, bed linen and a variety of products such as talcum powder, methylated spirit, zinc, castor oil and silicone cream. Two nurses would then work their way round the ward, starting with the most ill patients. Patients valued them because it was a chance to talk through their concerns and freshen up ready for visitors and/or their next phase of treatment. Keywords
