Discriminant Validity of Levenson's I and P Scales

Abstract
The intent of this experiment was to demonstrate the discriminant validity of two dimensions of the locus of control construct ('Personal Control" and "Powerful Other Control") when used as predictors of causal attribution. As predicted, Personal Control internals perceived outcomes as determined more b' effort than did Personal Control externals. Unexpectedly. external attributions (luck and task difficulty) did not differ between Personal Control internals and externals. Attributions were influenced by the situation presented to the subjects (academic or factory'). Finallr, in support of the multidimensional conception of locus of control, the Powerful Other dimension was unrelated to the causal attributions.
