One-lung Anesthesia in Morbidly Obese Patients

Abstract
To determine the intra- and postoperative respiratory course of morbidly obese patients undergoing transthoracic gastric stapling surgery with selective collapase of a lung for 1-lung anesthesia, 8 such patients were studied. Pulmonary function and blood gas results showed that morbidly obese patients can tolerate 1-lung anesthesia for transthoracic gastric stapling with safety comparable to that obtained with the abdominal approach.
