Abstract
An apparatus has been developed for the determination of vapour‐gas diffusivities based on Arnold's unsteady state method. The diffusivities of water vapour in hydrogen, nitrogen and air, and the diffusivities of water vapour and benzene in a typical coal gas mixture have been determined at 25°, 40° and 55°c. The diffusivities of water vapour in hydrogen, nitrogen and air have been compared with previous experimental results. It is found that the apparatus is capable of producing results of slightly improved reproducibility in a fraction of the time required by previous experimental methods based on Stefan's steady state method. Keywords
