Capillary absorption of water in hardened cement pastes treated with silicic esters or alkylalkoxysiloxane

Abstract
By diminishing the ability of cementitious materials to absorb water by capillarity, their durability can be enhanced. The results are presented of impregnating hardened cement pastes prepared with various w/c ratios with silicic esters (deposition of silica gel within the pores) and alkylalkoxysiloxane formation of siloxane films on the pore surface). The changes brought about in sorptivity are discussed according to some extensions of Darcy's equation.
