Synthesis and Characterization of New Schiff Base Complexes of 2-Pyridinecarboxaldehyde and Thiosemicarbazides

Abstract
New Schiff base chelating ligands were prepared by reacting equimolar quantities of 2-pyridinecarboxaldehyde and thiosemicarbazide (PTSC) or 4-phenylthiosemicarbazide (PPTSC) in ethanolic medium. Their subsequent reaction with metal salts in 2:1 molar ratio gave complexes that were characterised by elemental analysis, i.r. and diffuse reflectance spectra, and by magnetic and thermal studies. Structures of the complexes are proposed.
