Growth and reproduction on a low fat diet

Abstract
Extracted yeast and casein, often employed as components of "fat-free" diets, contain considerable amts. of lipid. A diet has been pre-pared which contains much less lipid than any diet previ-ously reported, 0.0156%. Rats receiving this low fat diet with the addition of vits. A, D and E and essential un-saturated fatty acid increased in body wt. and reproduced satisfactorily. No evidence was obtained for the existence of additional fat soluble nutrients essential for the rat. Concentrates of vit. E prevented the early symptoms of paralysis observed in rats on vit. E deficient diets.
