Abstract
Studies of optical inhomogeneities of ocean waters can be carried out only by measurements in situ because sampling methods give only single values at separate points, but do not allow the accumulation of information on the continuous distribution of optical characteristics in space and time. To provide for in situ measurements in deep waters, new hydro-optical devices for investigations in sea waters at depths to 2000 m were recently constructed at the Marine Hydrophysical Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR. These include three types of transmittance meters, a bathyphotometer for underwater illumination measurements, a polarimeter radiance meter, and others.
