Abstract
FROM 1940 through 1945, gastric ulcer was diagnosed at the Mayo Clinic in 1863 cases. Approximately 25 per cent of these patients had small, benign-appearing ulcerations for which they received medical treatment.This form of therapy was instituted in most cases with the approval of the physician, in some at the insistence of the patient and in others because of the presence of coexisting disease. In all these cases medical treatment was started at the Mayo Clinic, but in most it was continued elsewhere.
