Abstract
Although total hip replacement procedures were pioneered and perfected in Great Britain, the overwhelming success and dramatic results of this approach to hip disease have lead to its recent acclaim in the United States. Of the various types of total hip arthroplasties, the Charnley low-friction total hip replacement is the most popular in the United States. Although, at present, this procedure should only be undertaken in orthopedic centers by an experienced orthopedic team; radiologists outside these centers must be aware of the procedure, not only to help in the follow-up care, but also to advise referring physicians about the indications and potential of this procedure. Keywords
