Abstract
The propagation factor for wave propagation over an impedance surface containing irregularities which are large compared to a wavelength is calculated for the special case of a two-dimensional Gaussian ridge. Sample calculations show that there is focusing on the front slope of the ridge and a deep shadow behind it. Far behind the ridge, the field recovers; at high frequencies there is diffractive gain.Keywords
