Zone Purification of Potassium Chloride

Abstract
A procedure is presented for the direct purification of untreated, stockbottle KCl by zone refining in a dilute halogen atmosphere. The distribution of Na and Br at parts-per-million concentrations is followed by neutron-activation analyses. Computer-analyzed distributions in refined ingots yield k*Na=0.53±0.03 and k*Br=0.72±0.02.Keywords
