Abstract
This article examines superintendent‐school board relationships in three school districts where the superintendents are women. Drawing upon multiple sources of qualitative data and concepts from Kanter's structural framework, the author analyzes organizational influences that shape the process of superintendent selection and the conditions under which authority is negotiated.Keywords
