Abstract
Replacement of the arthritic knee now has clinical results that equal or exceed those of hip replacement in terms of pain relief, satisfactory function, and survival of the implant after 10 years.77 , 78 These results have not been achieved by any one person or center, but by the combined efforts of engineers and surgeons from many countries. There has been a slow evolution of concepts, techniques, and designs over the past 30 years, with enormous strides in the past 15 years.
